The Assembly of First Nations confirmed in an August 21 bulletin that a dedicated First Nations–First Ministers' Meeting will take place October 26 on unceded Algonquin Territory in Ottawa, with a ceremony the day before. AFN leadership describes it as unprecedented: the first meeting to sit First Nations leadership directly opposite the Prime Minister and all provincial and territorial premiers as a distinct political order, rather than working through bilateral or ministerial channels.
