Each mark is a community location from the federal band registry. Territories are far larger, they overlap, and most of BC is unceded — this locates communities, not territory. Outline and rivers: Natural Earth, public domain.

Why 201 and not 203

You will usually see 203 First Nations quoted for British Columbia, and Indigenous Services Canada's own BC Region contains 204 bands. This list holds 201, because it is filtered to bands whose administrative office is actually in the province — the BC Region also administers a few whose offices sit outside it.

Three numbers, three slightly different questions. None of them is wrong. This one is stated rather than smoothed over because a directory that quietly picks a number is the kind of thing you cannot check.

What is here, and what is not

Names, band numbers and office locations come from the federal band registry. People or Nation and Tribal Council affiliation are matched in from a secondary source where the match was confident.

Tribal Council is blank for 64 of them. Blank means no confident match was found, not that the Nation is unaffiliated. Those are different claims and only one of them is supported here.

"Nothing tracked yet" means exactly that — this site has not recorded anything about that Nation this year. It is a statement about the coverage of this record, not about the Nation.

One structural limit is worth naming. This is a registry of bands, and a Nation is not always a band. Where a Nation is made up of several communities that each appear here separately, anything recorded at the Nation level will not attach to the individual community pages — the Nisga'a Villages are the clearest example. That is deliberate. A Nation and its communities are related, not interchangeable, and quietly merging them would put one community's name against another's affairs.

The directory

Every Nation above is also in a searchable list — by name, by People, or by Tribal Council, with what the record holds against each.
