Ledger record YTD26-002
January 26, 2026 · effective January 26, 2026
Skeena Gold + Silver's Eskay Creek project received a B.C. environmental assessment certificate, a federal impact-assessment decision, and a Mines Act permit with Tahltan consent.
Eskay Creek became the first project authorized through a consent-based decision-making agreement under section 7 of B.C.'s Declaration Act. It is a practical test of consent as a project-governance mechanism, not only a policy aspiration.
Disclosed
No amount made public.
Where it stands
Core provincial and federal approvals were issued. Additional authorizations and construction execution remained; the company targeted first production in the second quarter of 2027.
What would move it next
Remaining permits, financing and construction milestones, then the company's Q2 2027 production target.
The other view
Tahltan consent is not a substitute for all remaining regulatory, financing, environmental, and execution risk. Support from one rights-holding Nation should not be generalized into a single regional Indigenous view.
Unresolved
- Will the project meet its construction schedule and budget?
- How will consent conditions and benefit commitments be monitored through operations?
