NIHB predetermination
A pre-approval process for certain NIHB services, particularly dental work over a certain cost. Your provider submits a treatment plan to NIHB before doing the work so you know in advance what will be covered. Always ask your provider about predetermination for major treatments.

Status Indian
A person registered under the Indian Act. Status determines eligibility for Section 87 tax exemptions, NIHB health coverage, and other federal programs. Status is not the same as band membership — they are separate but related.
